Natasja van der Meer is a Dutch artist, designer and author whose work grows out of a deep, lifelong bond with nature and craft. For her, the natural world is an endless source of inspiration. It provides the finest materials like clay, wood, plants, seeds, shells, stones and fibres. She creates handmade objects using locally grown, foraged, recycled and responsibly sourced materials. These become meaningful objects that hold the memory of where they were found, whether in a forest, by the river or on the shore.
She comes from a long line of makers and works slowly, by hand, using traditional techniques such as carving, weaving, basketry and ceramics. She has a deep respect for these crafts, whose essential techniques have remained the same for centuries. Practising these skills allows her to feel connected with her ancestors. Imperfection is welcome, each piece is unique, and its true value lies in the time, attention and care poured into it.
Her work is both practical and poetic: calm, tactile pieces that honour nature as a generous collaborator rather than a resource. Reciprocity is central to her practice. Many pieces are designed to give something back, whether by hosting seeds, offering shelter to small creatures or being able to return safely to the soil. With her objects she invites people to reconnect with their hands, their senses and the living landscapes around them and to treat the gifts of this planet with respect, gratitude and mutual care.
